Book Sale 10 September 2011

There will be a Book Sale at The Capitol ,the Weatherspoons pub near Forest Hill Station on 10 September 2011. The sale will be held between 11am and 5pm.

Great Expectations at the Pepys Resource Centre

Today the BBC were filming scenes for a new version of Great Expectations on the south bank of the River Thames on Deptford Strand. Ray Winstone, who plays Magwitch, and Douglas Booth (Pip) spent the morning on the river bank just outside the centre and we supplied teas and coffees for the crew. The series is due to be broadcast at Christmas 2011.

World Book Night at the Pepys Resource Centre

The Pepys Resource Centre was one of many venues throughout the UK and Ireland celebrating World Book Night. One million books were given away by an army of passionate readers to members of the public across the UK and Ireland. 48 copies of Alan Bennett's book, "A Life Like Other People's" were given away by the centre. The BBC and John Bird, creator of The Big Issue, come to the Pepys Resource Centre to record a piece for the BBC programme, "Inside Out" due to be shown on BBC1 London on Monday March 7th at 7:30 p.m.

Pepys Resource Centre mentioned in Parliament

Pepys Resource Centre was mentioned in a Parliamentary debate on library services by local Member of Parliament, Joan Ruddock (Lewisham,Deptford).
"In a constant drive for efficiency, Lewisham has also developed new models. We acquired three additional community libraries over those years. One, at the Pepys resource centre in my constituency, is run by ECO Computer Systems in partnership with Hyde Housing and is supported by local volunteers and, crucially, by the council's library and information service, which supports new facilities by providing up-to-date stock, delivering professional advice, organising activities and promotions, training partner organisations and offering technical services such as access to online resources."

Doors open at New Pepys Resource Centre

"Residents at the Pepys Estate, Lewisham are set to benefit from a new, multi-use resource centre boasting a new community library and a social enterprise computer business thanks to an innovative partnership between the Hyde Group and Lewisham Council."

The official launch of the new community library at the Pepys Resource Centre

The new community library at Pepys Resource Centre, Deptford Strand, London, SE8 3BA was officially launched on the 19th of November 2010. Speeches by Paul Singleton from Hyde Housing, Darren Taylor of Eco Computer Systems, Paul, who teaches Maths and English at the Centre on Saturdays and finally the Mayor of Lewisham, Sir Steve Bullock, even though Darren introduces him as John!
